Public Speaking is most people’s greatest fears. #2 is dying. It’s been said that if you are at a funeral, you’ll prefer to be in the box than having to give the eulogy. There is even a name for this fear: “glossophobia” is the technical term given to a fear of public speaking. People who suffer from this tend to freeze in front of any audience. They find their mouth dries up, their voice is weak and their body starts shaking. They may even sweat, turn red and feel their heart thumping rapidly. This is overcome with practice.

He holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering, an MS and an MBA. After serving in the US Air Force, he worked in Silicon Valley for defense contractors, Intel Corp and Sun Microsystems in marketing positions.
Rick is an adventurer. He has over 300 scuba dives, rafted the Grand Canyon 3 times and has driven a dogsled in the shadow of Denali in Alaska. He’s summited the tallest peak in the continental US – Mt. Whitney. Rode his bike across Iowa – twice. Rick’s hiked the Inca Trail in Peru and crawled inside the pyramids at Giza. He’s lectured on Cruise Ships over 30 times.
But he is a histophile – a lover of history and gives talks the “average” audience enjoys: the Great Wall of China, Aviation, the Renaissance, Napoleon, Genghis Kahn, the Titanic and even UFO’s. The list includes 70+ image based talks – no “death by PowerPoint” here!
He formed a small business to share his outdoor experiences with people of all walks. Carpe Diem Experience, LLC is his dba. He’s written two guide books on Yosemite, the current one: “One Best Hike: Yosemite’s Half Dome” has sold over 20,000 copies. He’s done this extremely strenuous hike 42 times.
Rick’s worked hard to be branded “Mr Half Dome.” Helping you get to the top of YOUR mountain. He gives over 100 lively presentations a year at Yosemite, museums, outfitters, libraries, civic groups, retirement centers and associations. Due to the Corona COVID-19 virus he does ZOOM presentations. He has appeared on Public Radio, ABC radio, television, and has written articles for several outdoor publications. He speaks on cruise ships and offers instruction on how to get free cruises by giving lectures.
